THE CLUB
“We had a lovely visit once again to Sons of the Thames.
Thanks so much for another warm welcome- we felt right at home!”
Location
Visiting Crews
Based at Linden House, Sons is on one of the based locations on the Tideway. With full use of the University Course on our doorstep we have some of the most challenging and best rowing the Thames has to offer. Walking distance from Chiswick, Ravenscourt Park and Hammersmith there is a huge range of fantastic places to eat as well as loads of transport options.
Linden House offer us free tea and coffee at the weekends and serve food at lunch times over the weekend. Often putting on events, its a great place to be and there is always something happening ... especially on Boat Race Day!
Boats and equipment
We have our own gym with free weights, kettlebells, leg press, and Concept2 ergs. More ergs are available at neighbouring Latymer School for crew sessions.
The ratio of boats to members is good, giving most the opportunity to go out in everything from a single to an eight, safety permitting. We have a range of good quality carbon hulls, mostly with wing riggers. The best represented marque is Hudson although there are many others.
Club social
Cooked breakfasts are available at Linden House on Saturday and Sunday mornings. So you can put the boat away, have a shower and go straight upstairs for hot food. Most people who have turned out to row do this, with everyone sitting together in the same room. We share Linden House with London Corinthian Sailing Club and are often invited to their many social events including Burn's night and summer evening BBQ's. Sons also have their own social crew who organise and suggest events. When there’s enough light, we row on Thursday evenings and go to the bar afterwards. There are parties at Christmas and in the summer, at the end of the learn to row course,
Visiting crews
We do our best to help overseas and visiting UK crews boat for Tideway events when we can. Sons is a convenient location to boat from, for Tideway Head Races and Regattas, or hire a boat when we have hulls available. To find out more, please contact us. If you are coming from overseas, it's possible that one of our members will speak your language. We may even be able to supply a cox if needed, although this does depend on the availability of volunteers. For directions, see our contact page.
We also welcome any compatent rowers from outside of London, as long as they hold a British Rowing Licence and are experienced rowers. We understand how fantastic it is to get on the tideway and what a wonderful experience rowing while in the city can be, however the Tideway is a dangerous place and if you're looking to hop in a boat while you're in London, we can only accept those who are already confident in a boat and able to handle themselves as part of the crew. Please get in touch if you want to visit us at Sons by using out contact page or emailing enquiries@sonsrowing.com
In November 2019 we launched our Red Board Club, offering some tideway refuge for any crews restricted to local time on the water due to weather conditions. If you would like to travel down to west London to take advantage of this arrangement please contact: captain@sonsrowing.com
