Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings, Mid July to End of August
2026: We’re excited to be running a Learn to Row course again this summer from July 15th to Saturday August 22nd, and it’s going to be a fantastic introduction to the sport.
You’ll be coached by a professional rowing coach, supported by our experienced club volunteers, giving you the perfect blend of expert instruction and friendly guidance.
The course is suitable for complete beginners, as well as those who may have rowed before and want to get back into it. You don’t need any previous experience — just reasonable fitness and the ability to swim.
You’ll learn the fundamentals of rowing, build confidence on the water, and spend most of your time in stable, larger boats such as eights. Rowing takes time to master, but that’s part of the fun of it - and this course is designed to give you a genuinely enjoyable, supportive start.
The full course costs £250, covering all coaching, equipment, and club support.
If you’ve ever been curious about rowing, this is a brilliant way to try it in a welcoming, structured environment — and to discover why so many people fall in love with the sport.
This year’s programme will run over the six weeks, with sessions on:
Wednesdays at 7.00pm (around 90 minutes)
Saturdays at 10.30am (around 90 minutes)
On the course you'll be doing:
Preparatory technique training in the rowing tank, and on the Concept 2 rowing machine.
On the water training, usually in eights.
Water safety and rowing terminology.
Stretching and core strength.
Sprint racing on the final day, just for fun.
